Wraparound is an intensive, strengths and needs based service delivery, community-based family-centered process designed to allow seriously emotionally disturbed children to remain in their community or at the lowest level of care possible. The wraparound process "wraps" the child and their family with flexible services while supporting the child to succeed in a lower placement level, usually within the child's community.
What Children are served?
Wraparound is a specialized process for a limited number of children currently placed in or at risk of being placed in high-level group homes. The targeted population includes:
- Children experiencing a disturbance in one or more of the following areas: school, community relations, emotional functioning (SED) or family relations.
- Children who is currently placed, or who would be placed in a group home licensed at a RCL of 10 - 14.
- There is a family/relative, legal guardian or potential provider who is open to strength-based, family-centered planning.
- Children must be California Welfare and Institutions Code (WIC) 300, 602, AB 3632 (currently in placement)/2726, and/or Adoption Assistance Program (AAP) eligible.
What Services are Provided?
Based on an individual assessment of the children and families needs, services could include:
- Provision of direct home-based and community-based services and supports,
- Parent advocacy and support development,
- 24-hour crisis intervention and management,
- Intensive case management
Who is Eligible for Wraparound?
- Families with children and adolescents who have serious emotional, behavioral and mental health problems
- Children and adolescents in placement, coming out of placement, or at risk of placement levels (RCL) 10-14
- Children and adolescents who are:
- Dependants of the Court (probation)
- Wards of the Court (DCS)
- Recipients of AB3632 services
